Cool Fusion (@TM) is not cold fusion. Cold fusion works but it is designed to produce hot water. Make to boil some water (burning oil or with nuclear energy), send the steam to a turbine and produce some electricity works, but is not very efficient (from 30 to 40%). It is cumbersome: it cannot be scaled down (miniaturized) efficiently. The enegy produced cannot be stored easily.
Cool Fusion primary energy source is an intrinsecally safe low energy fusion nuclear reaction. It uses the low nuclear cross section deuterium plus deuterium fusion reaction that produces helium-4 (the stable, not radiactive, not explosive isotope of helium used to fill party baloons). Most of the excess energy (from the mass loss E=mc2) is extracted as electrical energy that recharge a conventional lithium battery. Actually, fusion and battery cells are integrated in a single fusion-plus-storage device: the Cool Fusion Energy Battery.
For the end-user the Cool fusion Energy Battery (CEB) is a conventional lithium battery that is automatically recharged at slow rate (around ten hours for a full charge). If required, the CEB can be fast charged as a conventional lithium battery. This very slow charging rate allows long (up to ten year) CEB lifetime.
